Michael Jeffrey Cohen (1964 - 2022)
Michael, or “MJC” as he was known by his many friends and colleagues, was a Chicago-based improviser, writer, director and actor, who was based in Chicago, Philadelphia and New York at various times throughout his career. MJC loved and performed improv comedy for over 30 years with ComedySportz (CSz) Chicago, Philadelphia and New York, Gotham City Improv, iO, Second City Training Center, and was thrilled to join CSz Manchester in 2018 at the internationally renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As a director, MJC was the writing and creative force behind CSz Philadelphia’s popular show “Timeprov: The Improvised Doctor Who Parody!” MJC was also a member of the Savoy Company of Philadelphia, where he performed in many a Gilbert & Sullivan show - also writing most of the program copy.
In addition to his first love of improv, MJC had a successful career as a commercial/entertainment copywriter as well as working in the medical publishing field. MJC earned a BA in Journalism/Cultural Studies from SUNY-Empire State College. The son of the late Arlene Cohen, MJC is survived by his father Steven Cohen, stepmother Marie Cohen, brother Ken Cohen, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many close friends.
