Well-known choreographer and talented actor Desmond Gray, known best for his recurring role on Chicago Med, passed away unexpectedly in November 2022.

Chicago theater credits include: The Wiz (Kokandy Productions), Hit The Wall (The Inconvenience @ Steppenwolf Garage)); The Wild Party & AIDA (Bailiwick Chicago); You On The Moors Now (The Hypocrites); Hushabye (Steppenwolf); The Nutcracker, Borealis and Hatfield & McCoy (House Theatre); The Misanthrope, Tartuffe (Court), Hellcab (Profiles), American Bacchae (RHINO Fest), We Live Here (Theatre Seven @ Greenhouse), In Darfur (TimeLine Theatre Co), and The Seven @ SKETCHBOOK: Reincarnate (Collaboraction).

TV Credits include: Maydays (2013), Chicago Med (2015-2022, recurring role as paramedic Desmond), Chicago P.D. (2016), Chicago Fire (2017-2018)

His nephew Brandon Jackson said this: “My Uncle Desmond loved to sing, loved to dance, loved to perform. We had a group when we were young, and whenever Grandpop would take us on one of our road trips,  Desmond gave us the courage to perform no matter where we were. He continued with that courage throughout his career. He was never afraid, and if he was, I couldn’t tell. One of me and Kenny’s favorite things to do was to make Uncle Desmond laugh. He had one of those laughs where you just couldn’t help but laugh too.”

Goodman Theatre posted this after word of his passing: “It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we mourn the loss of our dear colleague and friend, Desmond Gray. Desmond has been a part of the Goodman family in Audience Services since 2015 and was such a profound presence that our theatre won't be the same without him. We will miss his humor, his grace and his kindness. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, artistic community and all who knew him—we were all so very privileged to have experienced the light and joy of Desmond.”

Gray is survived by his parents Arthur and Francesca Gray, siblings Jennifer Gray Jackson and Christopher Gray, nephews Brandon and Kenneth, and a host of family and friends.
