Barbara Barrow
Died February 22, 2020
Singer-songwriter Barbara Barrow passed away after a 12-year battle with Parkinson’s. Barrow began her career at Miami’s famed Flick Coffeehouse, where she met her husband and musical collaborator, Michael P. Smith. After traveling with the Baker Street Irregulars and releasing several duet albums, including Mickey and Babs Get Hot and Zen, Chicago beckoned and the couple settled in the Windy City, becoming regulars at venues such as The Earl of Old Town, Somebody Else's Troubles, Holstein's, No Exit and Orphan's. In 2000, Barrow and Smith created Weavermania with Mark Dvorak and Chris Walz, performing together for more than a decade. According to Smith’s website, a highlight – if not the pinnacle of the Weavermania experience – was a concert where Pete Seeger played onstage with them. The couple’s 52-year marriage and partnership ended with Barbara’s passing in February. Michael passed away on August 3, 2020. |
