Mark St. Amant (2025)

Picture
Chicago/LA actor and director Mark St. Amant has passed away. Mark was known for his 1989 lead performance as Bobby in Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace’s Stephen Sondheim musical COMPANY directed by Steppenwolf Theatre’s Rondi Reed, lead character Lewie in Brett Neveu’s AMERICAN DEAD with LA’s Rogue Machine Theatre directed by Brett Neveu, Rebecca Gilman's THE GLORY OF LIVING at Circle Theatre in Oak Park, playing the mysterious doctor from SUNNY AFTERNOON in 2013, and founding the Summer Playwrights Festival in 2010.

Mark burst onto the Dallas theater scene straight out of Texas Tech’s legendary program, leading productions like MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. From there, he took his talents to Chicago, and finally Los Angeles, where he became a fixture at Rogue Machine, a theater company known for its fearless storytelling.

Mark is survived by his daughter, Emerson.

Friend and collaborator Scott Alan Smith said this: “Mark was a passionate theater maker—as skilled a director as he was an actor and he had a keen sense of what made a play great.”
